Lolo rips Times piece

Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones broke down on yesterday’s “Today” show — blaming an article in The New York Times and calling it a “crazy misogynist hit piece.”

The article, published Aug. 4, said that Jones had “almost no possibility of winning gold” and said the publicity she’s been receiving was “based not on achievement but on her exotic beauty and on a sad and cynical marketing campaign.”

Jones, who finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles Tuesday, broke down when she was asked by Savannah Guthrie about the Times article.

“I think it was crazy because it was two days before I competed and then the fact it was from a US media outlet,” she said.

“They should be supporting our US Olympic athletes. And instead they just ripped me to shreds,” she said.

“The fact they just tore me apart, it was just heartbreaking,” she said. “They didn’t even do research . . . Just because I don’t boast about these things, I don’t think I should be ripped apart by media.”
