A Queens spa owner, who admitted to severely injuring a woman during a buttocks lift while posing as a plastic surgeon, was locked up by a judge yesterday for failing to make restitution in advance of her sentencing.
Barbara Nieto, 29, was expected to turn over a $50,000 check to Queens prosecutors today before she was thrown into prison for two years for illegally performing liposuction and buttocks-enhancing injections to Augusta Velez-Jimenez on March 20, 2010.
Queens Supreme Court Justice Robert Kohm blasted Nieto for disobeying his orders when she pleaded guilty to unauthorized practice of a profession and assault last month and held her on $100,000.
“You could have been sentenced to up to seven years today,” Kohm scolded Nieto.
Velez-Jimenez, 25, paid $500 to have her booty lifted. Within days, she was hospitalized for severe pain and needed surgery to avoid a life-threatening infection.
