Yankees on deck at Tigers

INSIDE THE MATCHUPS

YANKEES: Kuroda has gone at least seven innings 10 times in his past 13 starts. One of the shorter outings was his last start, when he went 6 1⁄3 innings and was the hard-luck loser in a 1-0 defeat at Seattle on Friday.

TIGERS: After losing six of his first seven decisions, Fister is 5-1 in his past six starts, including a complete game in Saturday’s 6-1 win vs. the Indians. His ERA has dropped from 4.61 to 3.53 in that span.

STAT SO?

YANKEES: During the Yankees’ 7-12 skid since July 18, they are 0-8 in one-run games. Lack of offense was a big contributor. They averaged 4.39 runs a game — before busting out for 12 last night — nearly a half-run less than their season average (4.84).

TIGERS: Detroit is having no problems scoring. The Tigers are averaging 7.71 runs a game over their past seven (6-1).
