Jacobs calls Jets a ‘circus,’ who will never ‘one-up the Giants’

Brandon Jacobs is far removed from the Jets-Giants rivalry, but the now-49ers running back still has an opinion on the subject.

In an interview with CBSSports.com, Jacobs said the Jets will always play second fiddle to the Giants in New York.

“And it’s always going to be like that,” Jacobs told the website. “They were in the AFC Championship game twice in a row, but the year after that the Giants win the Super Bowl. That discredits everything as far as the Battle of the City. They can’t ever one-up the Giants — not in my eyesight; not in anyone else’s eyesight. They can never do that. They keep trying, but they’re doing it the wrong way.”

Jacobs and the Giants proved that on the field last year when they beat the Jets 29-14 in Week 16. The win was the first of six in a row for the Giants, which ended in a Super Bowl victory. Jacobs ended that game by telling Jets coach Rex Ryan, “It’s time to shut up, fat boy.”

“It’s a circus, man. But every year it’s like that,” said Jacobs, who signed with San Francisco in the offseason.

“Obviously the Jets have some great players. Bart Scott, [Darrelle] Revis, [Antonio] Cromartie. They have a good defense, no question about it. But all this stuff surrounding [Tim] Tebow and [Mark] Sanchez … I truly think it’s going to be Sanchez. He’s going to be the guy. He’s got to be the guy. He’s the natural quarterback out of the two. That’s just my opinion. I shouldn’t be speaking of their team, but I’m just so tired of reading and hearing of everything over there … and it’s mid-August. It’s like: Are you kidding me? Camp’s not even over.”

Jacobs returns to MetLife Stadium in Week 4 when his 49ers take on the Jets. The outspoken running back’s comments will likely serve as bulletin board material for Ryan’s crew. Though, Jacobs comments were not all bad. He actually thinks he is similar to Ryan.

“No question,” he said. “I really like coach Ryan. I feel like we’re sort of alike.”

And he said he believes the Jets are a quality football team.

“Like I said, the Jets have a great football team. They’re talented, no question about that, and Shonn [Greene] is a great running back who runs hard. They’ve got a good team, man, but sometimes … I just don’t know what the problem is. That’s why things go the way it does for them,” Jacobs said.
