Judge sets Oct. trial date for Bx. man accused of rape-murder of ex-girlfriend

A judge has set an Oct. 9 trial date for the Bronx man accused of the heinous rape-murder of his ex-girlfriend, a beautiful Borough of Manhattan Community College student from Italy.

“He loved her very much, and he is looking forward to his day in court,” defense lawyer Seema Iyer told The Post of client Bakary Camara, 42.

Victim Rita Morelli, 36, was found last November with her throat slashed in her new boyfriend’s bed in an apartment on E. 120th Street. She had moved to the United States four years prior to her death.

Camara, a native of Senegal in Africa who worked as a security guard, was arrested nearly a week later, after allegedly directing a 911 operator to the murder address. He stabbed himself in the stomach twice, while crying “I killed Rita,” as cops entered the bedroom of his Bronx address to question him.

He directed cops to a note in his jacket, in which he detailed a failed relationship with Morelli and blamed the murder on his having suffered a voodoo curse, officials said.

Camara faces possible life without parole for first degree murder and rape.
