Washington Heights super crushed by elevator, suffers head trauma

A super in Washington Heights was badly hurt in an elevator accident, authorities said today.

The victim, whose name was not released, was hurt at about 8:40 a.m. as he retrieved keys a tenant dropped in an elevator shaft at 602 West 190th St.

Tenants in the building said the super was at the bottom of the shaft when he was hit by one of the elevator’s counterweights.

At the time of the accident, the elevator cab was at the building’s fifth or sixth floor, said witnesses.

The super was rushed to Harlem Hospital.

“He’s nice, a good person. He just got here one month ago,” said tenant Milagros Taveras, 60. She said the super is between 50 and 55 years old, and his family lives in Queens.

Police are investigating the incident.
