WATCH: Explosion on the ‘Boardwalk Empire’ set

The boardwalk is on fire!

A staged explosion on the set of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” – a show about 1920s Atlantic City – sent flames over Greenpoint, Brooklyn last night.

WNBC-TV video shows workers milling about the set and spraying the mock boardwalk in the moments before the explosion.

The explosion sent orange flames into the sky, the type of fireball never seen before in the real-life Atlantic City.

FDNY and NYPD crews were on hand to supervise.

The show, which stars Steve Buscemi as political boss Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, films in Brooklyn because it was easier (and cheaper) for crews to build a new boardwalk than use a current one in New Jersey.

And now, the rebuilding process begins.
