Vick banged up in Eagles win

X-rays on Michael Vick’s ribs were negative after the Eagles quarterback was knocked out of Philadelphia’s 27-17 preseason victory over the Patriots last night in Foxborough, Mass.

Vick was leveled by Patriots linebacker Jermaine Cunningham after heaving a deep pass on the Eagles’ sixth play from scrimmage. Vick knelt on one knee while surrounded by medical personnel, got up and walked to the sideline under his own power with 6:01 left in the quarter.

Vick left after completing one of three passes for 5 yards and running once for 5 yards.

SAINTS: New Orleans traded an undisclosed draft choice to the Seahawks Seattle for veteran linebacker Barrett Ruud.

The acquisition of Ruud, who is heading into his eighth NFL season, comes on the heels of injuries to three of the Saints’ top linebackers.

49ERS: Brandon Jacobs balanced himself on crutches walking through the 49ers locker room, but coach Jim Harbaugh said yesterday Jacobs’ left knee could be healthy enough for him to start the regular-season opener at Green Bay on Sept. 9.

TITANS: Tennessee has picked Jake Locker as its starter over veteran Matt Hasselbeck, choosing to wait no further to play the quarterback they drafted in 2011 for their future.

DOLPHINS: Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill has won the Miamistarting job. First-year coach Joe Philbin announced Tannehill will start the Dolphins’ opener Sept. 9 at Houston.

COLTS: Receiver Austin Collie has been diagnosed with at least his third concussion in less than 22 months, when he was hit by two Steelers in Sunday’s 26-24 Indianapolis loss.

CHIEFS: Pro Bowl linebacker Tamba Hali will miss the Sept. 9 game against the Falcons without pay after violating the NFLs substance-abuse policy, the league said.
