Patrol cops in deadly bike crash taken off duty

The two unidentified officers involved in a fatal motorcycle crash in The Bronx last week that left one man dead and another injured have been taken off active patrol duty while Internal Affairs investigates the accident, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters yesterday.

Eddie Fernandez, 28, was killed last Saturday when an NYPD patrol car pursuing him and his friend Adalberto Gonzalez, 26, slammed into the dirt bike they were driving, hurtling them both to the ground.

Gonzalez — who cops said suffered only minor scrapes — says he is planning on suing the NYPD for bodily injuries after breaking his leg and seriously hurting his neck and back, said his lawyer, Peter Ronai.
