This week’s couple: A Bronx Tale

BOTH KIM, 23 and Marlon, 33, are Uptown residents, so we thought it would be ideal for them to meet at the hot new Washington Heights restaurant La Marina. Before a terrific view of the Hudson River the two Bronx daters got to know each other. But would the romantic vista be enough to bring Marlon and Kim closer together?

He said:

When I first laid eyes on Kimberly I was pleasantly surprised. She looked amazing in her blue dress and was pretty. As we began to converse I started warming to her personality and I found we had a few things in common: We’re both from Hispanic backgrounds and reside in the Bronx.

The restaurant was really nice. We tried each other’s dishes and each claimed that our plate was better. The view was spectacular and the service was good.

I’d like to think I did well but Kim was a quiet type and tough to read. I am interested in seeing her again, but I’m not sure if it’s mutual. If I make a friend out of our interaction, that’s cool too.

She said:

Marlon had a laid-back vibe, even though he looked a little nervous. He seemed taken aback when he saw me, which made me feel slightly awkward, but I was excited about the date.

We both live in the South Bronx. Most people I meet don’t drive, or live in the Bronx, so those were interesting commonalities. We like basketball but he was hating on my team so the topic was changed rather quickly.

La Marina was amazing. The staff was very polite, there was good music, and you really couldn’t beat the view.

Marlon was a great guy — cool and a gentleman. He didn’t have the swag I was looking for, but he wasn’t a creep either. I could see us being friends and possibly going out for a drink sometime.

I had a good night and a good time, which is what I hoped for.
