Boys basketball recruiting roundup: Three schools standing out for Stepinac’s James

Josh James wouldn’t call it a top three, but right now Kent State, Monmouth and Stony Brook are at the top of his list. The 6-foot-2 Stepinac combo guard, coming off a big summer with New Heights, has visited Stony Brook twice, will see Monmouth this week and Kent State in September.

He’s developed a bond with Kent State head coach Rob Senderoff, has liked what he’s seen at Stony Brook and could possibly play with good friend and New Heights teammte Tyler Wilson at Monmouth. James has drawn plenty of other interest too from local mid-major programs, such as Manhattan and Marist, among others.

“Those are the three I like the best,” said James, who plans to commit early in the Crusaders’ season. “Other schools I have interest in, but I haven’t visited yet.”

Mack Academy next stop for Boys High’s Truck: Leroy (Truck) Fludd, The Post’s All-City Player of the Year, has found a destination. The 6-foot-5 wing will attend Mack Academy in North Carolina, he told The Post this weekend at the Battle of the Boroughs.

“That was the best place for me to go,” he said. “I can do the same things I did at Boys & Girls.”

Fludd said he will pick a college early into his prep season. Rutgers, Kent State, Arizona, Xavier, Iowa and Alabama have all expressed interest.

Hayes’ Williams to Millbrook: Nassir Williams, the former Cardinal Hayes and New Heights guard, will do a postgraduate year at the Millbrook School in upstate New York, he said. Williams should get an opportunity to prove he run the point there, which is what Division I programs like Richmond, Quinnipiac, Monmouth, Fairfield, LIU and Norfolk State who have expressed interest in him for the Class of 2013 are looking to see.

Former Lincoln standout Charles keeping options open: Former Lincoln forward Travis Charles recently landed a scholarship offer from Austin Peay. He is waiting to see if the NCAA Clearinghouse makes him eligible, but even if that happens, the 6-foot-6 Charles isn’t sure what he will do. He could do a postgraduate year at Quest Prep Academy in Las Vegas, where he would join recent Lincoln teammate Ethan Telfair. “Most likely I’ll still go to prep school,” he said. “It’s already pretty late.”
