An elderly woman was killed and her husband is fighting for his life after a head-on collision in The Bronx last night, authorities said.
A Mitsubishi Galant slammed into a blue Honda Odyssey minivan at 10 p.m. at the intersection of Bronxwood and Williamsbridge avenues.
“It looks like the cars went head-on. I heard a big boom,” said John Tujak.
When emergency responders arrived, they pulled a 70-year-old woman from the back seat of the Galant.
“The lady was like, ‘Take me out, I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe,’ ” said Lurline Cassanova.
The victim later died at Jacobi Medical Center.
“The ambulance came and they were doing CPR on her for a good 10, 15 minutes,” Cassanova said.
Her 86-year-old spouse, who was driving, was listed in critical condition at Jacobi.
A 76-year-old woman was also pulled from the Galant and is in stable condition.
“I saw [her] on the ground. I’m not sure if they put her there or if she flew out of the car,” Tujak said.
The 27-year-old minivan driver was also recovering at Jacobi in stable condition.
