Tough medicine for Medicare

The Issue: How Medicare will change after big funding cuts kick in under ObamaCare.

ObamaCare devalues the lives of the most innocent: unborn babies and the elderly (“Dems’ Medicare Lie,” Betsy McCaughey, PostOpinion, Aug. 21).

How long will it be until the physically and mentally disabled are denied care?

A civilization can be measured in how it cares for those who cannot care for themselves.

McCaughey, the mother of the “death panel” lie, strikes again by trying to scare Medicare recipients about ObamaCare.

She’s dead wrong. Her analysis alleges that hospitals and doctors will let patients die because they get paid less.

She missed important points germane to this year’s election.

Hospital-reduced Medicare payments will be offset because more Americans will be insured and hospitals will get paid for their care. Hospitals will save on the charity care they now provide to the large uninsured population.

There will also be an increase in preventive medicine and chronic-disease care, which should reduce inpatient stays and ER visits.

Finally, Medicare will reward efficiency, not stingy care.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will destroy Medicare as we know it.
