Christie backs off boast

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said yesterday the words “New Jersey comeback” will not be part of his keynote speech at the Republican National Convention.

The governor said at an event in New Brunswick he’s planning to steer clear of the words that have become a lightning rod for New Jersey Democrats to attack his economic policies.

Christie proclaimed months ago that the state’s economic rebound had begun. But New Jersey’s unemployment rate has since risen to its highest rate in 35 years, and revenue collections were disappointing in July, the first month of the fiscal year.
