NY team hits Yankee site to strike out at O

TAMPA — New York Republican delegates took swings at President Obama yesterday while visiting the Yankees spring-training facility here.

The Bronx Bombers opened the doors to Steinbrenner Stadium, where eager GOPers donned Yankee helmets, grabbed a bat and whacked baseballs.

Former Yankee shortstop Bucky Dent, a diehard Republican, signed autographs.

“We don’t have to take home-run swings to take out Obama. We just need to hit solid line drives,” said upstate Republican Greg Edwards. “We’ll have a 10-run mercy rule.”

Manhattan GOP leader Dan Isaacs and Queens Councilman and congressional candidate Dan Halloran also took swings.

“Tell them I hit eight balls out of the park,” Isaacs quipped.

Said Halloran: “It felt good. It was nice to swing the bat again. We’re slamming Democrats out of the park.”

Dent signed dozens of autographs on photos of his famous Oct. 2, 1978, home run at Fenway Park to beat the Boston Red Sox in the playoffs.

Dent said he’s been a longtime Romney supporter. “Are we going to win this thing? Let’s go!” Dent told delegates. “I’m hoping and praying Romney wins.”
