Wallace finally reports to Steelers

With less than two weeks before the start of the regular season, Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Wallace reported to the Steelers.

Wallace was at the team facility yesterday morning. A restricted free agent, he had yet to sign his one-year contract tender worth approximately $2.7 million.

He also will undergo routine medical exams, but will not practice with his teammates until next week.

Last season, Wallace has 72 receptions for 1,193 yards and eight touchdowns. He has 24 receiving touchdowns in his three-season career.

REDSKINS: One day after he appeared to win the Washington kicking job, Graham Gano is out of work. His replacement is Billy Cundiff, who spent two days unemployed after getting cut by the Ravens.

Gano was released and Cundiff signed by the Redskins.

Washington also released veteran tight end Chris Cooley, 30, who has spent his entire eight-season NFL career with the team. He has 428 career receptions, including three seasons of at least 70.

Injuries limited him to five games and eight receptions last season. The Redskins plan to use Fred Davis as their starting tight end.

TITANS: Tennessee removed receiver Kenny Britt from the physically unable to perform list following knee surgery, though he will not play tomorrow night in the team’s preseason finale against the Saints.

Britt will join the active roster today, allowing him to take part in any practice or session the Titans might have before tomorrow.

Now the question is when the NFL will announce if Britt will be punished for his eighth incident involving police since being drafted in 2009. Britt was charged with driving under the influence July 20, and met with NFL officials Aug. 6 in New York.

EAGLES: Brian Westbrook will officially retire as an Eagle tomorrow and will be honored during a game against the Redskins in December.

The former All-Pro running back played eight seasons with Philadelphia from 2002-09. He is the franchise leader with 9,785 total yards from scrimmage and total touchdowns (68).

BENGALS: Center Kyle Cook could be lost for the season because of a foot and ankle injury, the second significant setback to Cincinnati’s offensive line during the preseason.

Cook hurt his right foot and ankle when a defender fell on it during a preseason game Thursday night.

The Bengals already have lost left guard Travelle Wharton for the season with a knee injury suffered in the preseason opener.

* A federal judge ordered former NFL wide receiver Sam Hurd to be jailed indefinitely for failing two drug tests and allegedly buying drugs while already facing charges he tried to distribute marijuana and cocaine.

After the hearing, Hurd, 27, who played for the Bears and Cowboys, turned toward his family and supporters in the courtroom and said: “Lies.” He spoke briefly to a few people watching before he was led out of the courtroom.
