Stamford meets on Dalio HQ

The mayor of Stamford, Conn., and other city officials will be briefed for the first time today on controversial plans to move hedge-fund honcho Ray Dalio’s headquarters from Westport to the Stamford waterfront.

Mayor Michael Pavia and city planning officials are scheduled to meet with the developer, Building and Land Technology, this morning to discuss the plan, which calls for a new headquarters for Dalio’s $130 billion money-management firm, Bridgewater Associates, to be built at the site of an historic 14-acre boat yard.

“We are looking forward to seeing the plans, which we haven’t seen,” said Laure Aubuchon, Stamford’s director of economic development.

The private meeting falls short of an official application for approval to build, however, which will prevent zoning-board officials like Tom Mills and Barry Michaelson from attending, they said.

Plans for the new headquarters, announced earlier this month, sparked local outrage because they will interfere with efforts to rebuild the boat yard.
