Caroline Wozniacki, the women’s No. 8 seed and former world No. 1, lost to Irina-Camelia Begu, 6-2, 6-2 at Louis Armstrong stadium. Wozniacki made the semifinals here last year, but was battling a knee injury yesterday.
“It’s frustrating to have some injuries, but it happens to everyone,” said Wozniacki, whose No. 1-ranked-golfer boyfriend, Rory McIlroy, was in attendance. “I definitely felt like I couldn’t hit through her today, couldn’t hit past her and she took advantage of the opportunities.”
