The two were found shot to death off a dirt road near the Army post.

Supporters of former Maldives' President Mohamed Nasheed scuffles with an army soldier during a protest in Male. Supporters of the former president of the Maldives poured into the streets of the capital of the holiday island chain on Thursday to denounce an internationally backed report which said the leader's removal earlier this year did not constitute a coup. The Commonwealth-backed report is a blow for Nasheed, who hopes to return to power. About 1,000 supporters took to the heavily policed streets in protest at the findings, hours after the ousted leader urged his backers and the army to topple the new government of President Mohamed Waheed.

A team of scientists from the IRRI, led by Sigrid Heuer, say that they have discovered a gene called PSTOL1, or Phosphorous Starvation Tolerance, which increases grain production by 20 percent by enabling rice plants to grow stronger root systems for better intake of phosphorus, an important but limited plant nutrient. The discovery will help poor rice farmers grow more rice for sale, even while working on phosphorus-deficient land, according to Heuer.
