MLB: Strasburg hears it from Davey

Stephen Strasburg has “probably” two or three starts remaining before he’s done for the season, and he can no longer claim he wasn’t told the shutdown was coming.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson said yesterday he spoke to Strasburg about the right-hander’s innings limit.

Johnson said Strasburg is down to “probably … two or three” starts to go in the ace’s first full season since undergoing reconstructive elbow surgery.

FOOTBALL: Big East wants 14th team

New Big East commissioner Mike Aresco confirmed the conference wants to add a 14th member for football, and is planning to have a championship game after next season.

The Rutgers-Tulane game will be played as scheduled tomorrow night in the Superdome, only days after Hurricane Isaac swept across the New Orleans area with hurricane-force winds. The Superdome sustained only superficial damage.

The NFL suspended Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt, the former Rutgers star, one game after a driving under the influence arrest, his eighth run-in with police since he was drafted in 2009. Britt said he won’t appeal the decision.

GOLF: Bourdy leads by two strokes

In Crans-Sur-Sierre, Switzerland, Gregory Bourdy of France shot an 8-under 63 to lead by two strokes after the rain-swept European Masters first round.

Fredrik Andersson Hed of Sweden and Oliver Fisher of England trail by two strokes.
