The long-suffering husband of New Jersey’s infamous “Tan Mom” was doing a slow burn yesterday.

“Maybe she overdid it. But she doesn’t go out much,’’ an embarrassed Rich Krentcil mumbled when asked about his wife Patricia’s booze-fueled shenanigans at a Manhattan nightclub Wednesday.

Upset at having his family thrust into the spotlight again, he said, “She got a little nervous, but she was just trying to have a good time.

“It was a little wild, a little crazy. She feels a little bad,” he said at the door of their home in Nutley.

Patricia Krentcil, whose over-the-top tan made her an Internet celebrity, was the guest of honor at a roast at the XL Club in Hell’s Kitchen, where she drunkenly fell on the red carpet and was tossed out.

She wouldn’t show herself yesterday but was heard throwing a tantrum, screaming, “Shut up!” and, “Don’t open the f–king door. I’m not going out there. I’m done!’’

Apparently attempting to offer evidence she hadn’t been sloshed, she shouted, “Look, I’m falling down, and I’m not even drunk.”

She had put on quite a show at the club the night before.

Host Bianca del Rio, said, “She showed up at 2 p.m. for rehearsal, and she was amazing. But then we realized her medication hit in at 4, and then she came out at 9 p.m. she was drinking.

“We were making fun of her, and she got offended!”

Krentcil, 44, became a national sensation in May when she was charged with child endangerment for allegedly letting her 6-year-old daughter into a tanning bed.

Krentcil denied the charge but admitted to being a tan lover. She quickly became a favorite target of late-night TV hosts.

The plan for the XL Club show was to “roast” her with jokes intermixed with drag queens singing songs, such as “Burn, Baby, Burn.”

But it quickly became clear that Krentcil was not ready for the festivities.

“She told us about four times in succession that she didn’t put her kid in a tanning bed. We asked her what she wanted to drink, and she slurred, ‘I didn’t put my kid in a tanning bed!’ ” del Rio said. “When I saw her spill her free wine, I knew it was over.”

Del Rio said the club anticipated a problem and worked out a plan to have her removed if she spiraled out of control.

“I kinda figured it might happen, so we came up with a code word. It was ‘Christmas,’ ” del Rio said.

“After about five minutes, we were just about screaming ‘Christmas!’ and security took her out.”
