The Issue: Clint Eastwood’s speech at the Republican National Convention criticizing President Obama.
***
Clint Eastwood made my day with his “Invisible Obama” speech at the Republican National Convention (“‘Dirty’ Dishes It,” Aug. 31).
Four years ago, President Obama campaigned on the audacity of hope.
Now that his mask is off, Americans can no longer sit on the sidelines and allow themselves to be ruled by a president drunk with power.
They must engage Obama’s challenge and take up the good fight to ensure that he is not given another term in which to destroy the very soul of America.
It’s nice to see that there are still some “beautiful people” left in Hollywood who have not been totally taken in by Obama and his agenda.
Hopefully, more stars will follow and become a “Magnum Force” for Mitt Romney to take the White House in November.Paul Kokoski

I have watched every Republican and Democratic convention on TV since 1960. Eastwood’s unscripted stand-up routine Thursday night in Tampa was downright bizarre.
All I can say is, wait until Charlotte. Obama is no empty seat.

Like something straight from “Dirty Harry,” Obama must be asking himself how many times Eastwood insulted him: “Was it five or was it six?”
Is Obama still “feeling lucky?” It doesn’t matter, because Obama’s time is up in November, no matter how he feels. America has had enough.

Eastwood was so refreshing.
Democrats and some Republicans are so twisted out of shape that they missed the humor and the Reaganesque simplicity and succinctness of all the fine points he made about Obama’s failed presidency and his own shortcomings.
All they want to do is belittle the delivery. I think it added a little genuineness to a solid speech.

The empty chair next to Eastwood was quite appropriate, but the left-leaning, Obama-loving media don’t get it.

The only reason Eastwood used an empty chair is because he couldn’t get an empty suit to stand on the stage. It’s too bad Obama was out of town — that would have been much more appropriate.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, musician Kanye West declared that President George W. Bush didn’t care about black people. And then “Bush Derangement Syndrome” hit an all-time high when a movie was made depicting the assassination of the president.
What was worse was the deafening silence by our celebrities when these horrific, over-the-top actions were taken against a sitting president.
Four years later, Eastwood, a Hollywood icon, makes a few innocent jokes about Obama and the lefty, loony, hypocritical liberals claim Eastwood’s remarks went too far.

The decision to have Eastwood speak for 13 or so minutes was definitely a stroke of bad luck.
His speech was sometimes mean-spirited or just plain weird and it took attention away from Romney’s important political message.

What a great array of speakers at the RNC. How in the world will the Democrats trump it?
Who is going to announce Obama? Sandra Fluke? Rev. Jeremiah Wright?
They could tell of all his accomplishments the last four years, except that gas prices are still high, millions are on food stamps and out of work, debt is out of control and the real-estate market hasn’t recovered.
Eastwood nailed it: If you can’t do the job, you must be let go.
