For spring the guys at Duckie Brown brought their signature brand of subversive traditionalism and toughened it up with some serious attitude. There were tartans and leather and lots of denim in the typical menswear way. But then the execution: backless Harrington jackets, trousers with ruffles, asymmetrical shorts, and a particular “flower bomber” that saw layers of starched black denim folded into an oversized blossom. Was it extreme? Yes and no. While aggressively fashion forward, the collection felt — with all the familiar elements present — unthreatening and simultaneously inspiring. You could sense every man in the room wondering, “Could I pull that off?” And wishing the answer was “yes.”
