Syrian jets in death hit

Syrian warplanes bombed a northern town yesterday, killing at least 19 people, activists said.

The attacks occurred as Lakhdar Brahimi, the new UN envoy to the country, acknowledged that brokering an end to the civil war would be a “very, very difficult” task.

British-based observers said the airstrikes targeted a residential area of al-Bab, near the Turkish border.
