‘Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts is delaying the start of her medical treatment — set to begin today in New York — to attend her mother’s funeral tomorrow in Mississippi.
The TV anchor took a leave of absence from the morning show to undergo a bone marrow transplant — a medical procedure that can last for three months or more — for treatment of a rare immune disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome.
But plans for her medical treatment were delayed after the death of a her 88-year-old mother, Lucimarian, last week.
Visitation at a funeral home in Gulfport, Miss. — not far from Roberts’ childhood home in Pass Christian, Miss. — was slated to begin today.
After a private funeral tomorrow, she is to be buried at the Biloxi National Cemetery next to her husband, a career Army flyer who died in 2004.
Roberts is expected to return to New York later this week.
