Two injured horses rescued on Cross-Bronx Expressway

Two injured horses were rescued from the Cross-Bronx Expressway after injuring themselves inside their trailer, police said today.

Members of the NYPD Mounted Unit, EMTs and regular cops responded to a call around 2:55 p.m.

It turned out, the horses got spooked and knocked down a partition in their enclosure which left them with several gashes. The owners pulled over and called for help. Cops injected the horses with medication to calm them down and led them out of the banged-up and bloodied trailer and into an NYPD Mounted Unit trailer.

It was not immediately clear where the horses were taken.
