Breaking the SEAL: Osama book’s loose lips

The Issue: The book “No Easy Day,” which details the Navy SEALs’ attack on Osama bin Laden.

Former Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette should’ve had his book, “No Easy Day,” cleared by the government (“Navy SEAL Reveals: ‘The Night I Killed Osama,’ ” Sept. 2).

Bissonnette is putting active-duty, retired and future SEALs, CIA officers and other military service members in harm’s way. He had classified secrets and swore not to reveal them. He also has a responsibility to respect our commander-in-chief. I think he has broken both.

This is more than a matter of someone’s freedom of speech. This is about keeping America safe. Forget who should take credit for killing Osama bin Laden.

I don’t think he should be prosecuted, but I think his book should not have been published if the Department of Justice or the Pentagon feel that intelligence has been leaked. T. Folan

Many of President Obama’s detractors begrudgingly give him his share of credit for the demise of bin Laden.

There is an element that still refuses to respect the president’s role as commander-in-chief in the extermination of the world’s most-wanted terrorist.

Yes, the Navy SEALs, who are the most well- equipped and well-trained combat unit on the planet, are the ones who risked their lives on that fateful night.

But it was under direct orders from Obama.

If he gets no credit for bin Laden’s death, then going after bin Laden was a waste of time and effort from the beginning of the so-called “War on Terror,” and there should have been indifference throughout our country, rather than celebrations, as the news broke that bin Laden was dead. There were unforgivable, politically motivated leaks by the Obama administration regarding the bin Laden raid.

If his administration follows through on its threat to prosecute the Navy SEAL who recently penned a book about that raid because he used classified information, shouldn’t Obama be impeached for having done far worse?
