Animated Ryan is singing new toon

Jets coach Rex Ryan always has been animated. Just watch him on the sidelines — clapping, cheering, cursing, complaining.

And he always has been a bit of a character. Remember the time he came into a press conference wearing a long wig and pretending to be his twin brother, Rob, now the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator?

Now the Jets coach, despite being half the man he used to be thanks to his recent weight loss, is going to be an animated character.

Ryan, along with NFL stars Drew Brees of the Saints, Calvin Johnson of the Lions and DeMarcus Ware of the Cowboys, will be among the characters in an animated series developed by Nickelodeon and the NFL that is set to premiere in November. “NFL RUSH ZONE: Season of the Guardians” is the first-ever original half-hour animated series developed by a major U.S. sports league and a cable network.

The second installment of the Nicktoons series — based on NFLRUSH ZONE, the league’s online world for kids — follows kid protagonist Ishmael and his friends on a journey to protect the league’s 32 teams and the world from a plotting master villain.

No, not Bill Belichick. As far as we know, the Patriots’ coach is not involved.
