When Scott Schuman launched The Sartorialist in 2005, street-fashion blogs were a novelty. Fast-forward seven years and on-the-go shutterbugs have proliferated outside of fashion shows, at times outnumbering showgoers themselves.

“I think it’s great it has inspired people to feel closer to fashion, which has always had an elitist romance to it,” says Schuman, who has since amassed an impressive list of commercial clients such as Tiffany, J.Crew and Burberry, among others, even casting models from the people who have appeared on his blog.

The 43-year-old, who lives with girlfriend and fellow blogger Garance Doré in Greenwich Village, has traveled the world, which his second book “Closer” documents in photos that look beyond a subject’s threads. But, he says, New York is still his most fertile snapping ground. “The variety of people, backgrounds and culture, it’s just something I haven’t found anywhere else,” he says. Here, Schuman shares some of his favorite Big Apple subjects.
