Alexandre Herchovitch

Even if you didn’t get the Boy George reference — the designer played exclusively Culture Club songs during the show — you would certainly pick up on the ’80s vibe. But it was a crazy, upside-down ’80s that Herchcovitch created with this collection: rendered mostly in satin, his main motif was checkerboard, in standard and oversized forms.

The silhouette was also reminiscent of the decade — boxy on top with the designer’s signature, but subtle, leg of mutton sleeves. Prints mixed with glee — always with that checkerboard showing up, and sometimes a big red heart.

Exaggerated, brightly colored spectator pumps accompanied these looks, as did clutches bejeweled with smiley faces and safety pins.

At the end was a possibly subversive, possibly cheeky take on women’s 1980s businesswear, complete with brimmed hats. Madcap!
