Boy. by Band of Outsiders

Scott Sternberg showed Boy. by itself this season, apart from Girl (ah, men and women are so different), and it was a strong, if motley, showing. Sternberg’s attention to detail is impressive: each look was carefully wrought, from the tuck of a shirt to the slouch of a waistline.

The first few looks, in cream and army greens, had a military feel (made feminine by a flowing skirt) and beautiful crisp blazers with a black shawl collar. The next phase introduced a beach motif with macrame tanks and colorful bandeaus.

The drawstring, light-as-air pajama pants were nothing new, but paired with matching light jackets, they seemed fresh. More interesting were the tie-up pants — heavier-weight pants that tied up at the bottom.

Many of the prints were nice, but some were nicer than others — just say no to tie-dye or the melting sine wave. The final dresses shown, a string of loose cream shifts with oversized war-paint stripes splashed across them, were especially pleasing.
