Cops kill knife-wielding ‘madman’ in Queens

A policeman shot and killed an emotionally disturbed man who threatened him with a knife in Springfield Gardens Friday, police said.

Cops said they received a call from someone saying that an emotionally disturbed man had a knife to his neck inside of 165-43 144th Terrace around 4:46 p.m. When they arrived at the scene they found a 27-year-old man on the second floor acting irrational and holding a kitchen knife high above his head.

The officers demanded he drop the weapon several times, but the crazed man lunged forward with the knife towards one of the officers before getting shot once in the shoulder, police said.

The wounded man was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced dead a few hours later. The officer – who is from the 105th Precinct – was taken to North Manhasset Medical Center for tinnitus. Police said two other people were home at the time of the shooting and that the investigation is ongoing.
