Rangers winger Gaborik has an ice time

It may not have been much, but Marian Gaborik was on the ice at the Rangers’ MSG Training Center in Westchester yesterday and the team confirmed he is “progressing well” from his June 6 right shoulder surgery.

The original diagnosis had him not being available until November, and this skate doesn’t necessarily change that prognosis.

Gaborik led the Rangers during the 2011-12 regular season with 41 goals and 76 points, then sustained a torn labrum in Game 3 of the first round of the playoffs against the Senators. The 30-year-old Slovakian played with the injury, all the way until the Rangers were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Devils. He recorded 11 postseason points in 20 games.

The team said the skates are “informal,” and, although a possible lockout is looming with the current collective bargaining agreement scheduled to expire at 11:59 p.m. Friday, the team is still set to open training camp on Sept. 21.
