The chances of Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis playing Sunday in Pittsburgh seemed to decrease yesterday.
Revis was again not cleared to practice, and seemed resigned to the idea that the doctors might hold him out.
Revis suffered a concussion in Sunday’s victory over the Bills. He must be cleared by team doctors and an independent neurologist before he can play again, per the NFL concussion protocol. He has not practiced this week.
“It’s not my call,” a subdued Revis said. “It’s the doctors’ call. Whatever they say goes. I would try to be out there with a broken leg, I’m sure they know that as well. It’s a competitive spirit in me that just wants to go out there and play, so. If I feel fine, which I do, then we’ll go from there.”
Coach Rex Ryan said the team will need to know if Revis can play by tomorrow. Ryan said he does not think the team would put Revis on a plane if doctors still feel he has the concussion, even if there is a chance they would clear him by kickoff Sunday.
“I would think you wouldn’t put him on a plane to make the game-time decision,” Ryan said. “I would think by [tomorrow] we’ll certainly have an answer.”
Revis was quieter than usual and seemed down about the situation.
“I feel like I can play this week,” Revis said. “But there’s some procedures we have to do and guidelines we have to follow before I step on the field.”
