Radio City crash driver ‘reeked’ of booze

An alleged speed-demon Mercedes driver was ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bail yesterday after authorities said he “reeked of alcohol’’ and was “driving like a maniac’’ when he slammed his car into an airport shuttle van near Radio City Music Hall.

Imran Ahmed, 27, of Jersey City, has been charged with drunken driving, vehicular assault and unlicensed driving after allegedly injuring five people — at least two severely — in Sunday’s predawn crash.

But Manhattan Assistant District Attorney James Lin suggested at Ahmed’s arraignment yesterday in Manhattan Criminal Court that the suspect could face even harsher charges if any of his victims takes a turn for the worse.

Defense lawyer Zachary Johnson denied Ahmed had been drag-racing, as had been suggested by a witness.

Ahmed blew a red light speeding his silver luxury car up Sixth Avenue and crashed into the shuttle at West 49th Street, according to the criminal complaint.

A police source has told The Post that Ahmed was going 110 mph through Midtown. Another law-enforcement source said he “was driving like a maniac” through Midtown.

The auto-body repair worker’s license has been suspended at least three times.

According to the criminal complaint, Ahmed blew a .114 blood-alcohol reading afterward — well over the .08 legal limit.

He allegedly admitted to cops that he had been drinking, and Lin said he “reeked of alcohol” after the accident.

“No one here will downplay the significance of these charges. He understands how serious this is,” Ahmed’s lawyer, Johnson, said.

Ahmed is also currently on probation in New Jersey for a felony drug conviction, prosecutors said.

The van’s driver, Vanik Chiloyan, 56, of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, was pinned under the wreckage. He suffered a brain hemorrhage, dislocated jaw and eight broken ribs.

A couple from Israel — Bracha Sayag, 46, and her husband, David, 57 — were also hurt.

Bracha was being treated in Bellevue Hospital’s Surgical Intensive Care Unit yesterday for a fractured skull, broken neck and ribs, while David was being treated for neck and arm cuts.
