Concussed Revis hoping to rejoin Jets vs. Dolphins

The Jets are hopeful star cornerback Darrelle Revis will be cleared to play Sunday in Miami, but it is not a definite yet.

Revis missed this past week’s game with the Steelers due to a concussion. He said he feels “a lot better,” but coach Rex Ryan is not ready to pencil him into the lineup just yet.

“I don’t think you can assume that,” Ryan said. “He has to, to the NFL standards, pass those tests. Right now, he looks to be doing well, so hopefully he will be playing.”

Revis seemed much more like his normal self while talking to reporters yesterday as compared to last week. He was laughing and joking and said he has not taken the concussion tests since last week. He said he was not 100 percent when the team made the decision he would not travel to Pittsburgh.

“I’m just taking it one day at a time,” he said. “That’s the only thing I can really do. Just getting better and going from there.”

Ryan did not have any injury updates on tight end Dustin Keller (hamstring), linebacker Bryan Thomas (hamstring) or fullback John Conner (knee).

* Ryan said some of the problems in Sunday’s game came from poor practices last week.

“We weren’t as sharp during the week as we were the previous week, and it carried over to the game,” Ryan said.

RG Brandon Moore said the team needs to change its approach to practice this week.

“There were some things in practice this week that weren’t as clean as they were the week before, but that [Bills defense] was a more vanilla defense,” Moore said. “Is that the reason we didn’t play so well? I don’t know. Of course, every week, especially when you lose, you have to ramp up your approach for practice.”

* Big things were expected of OLB Aaron Maybin in his second season as a Jet. So far, he’s been invisible. Maybin has yet to register a tackle and played just 14 snaps against the Steelers.

“Personally, I feel like I’ve got to step it up,” Maybin said. “When you look at our performance yesterday, I don’t feel like I played bad, but when I don’t have game-changing plays, per se, I don’t feel like I did my job because that’s what they expect from me.”

* Safety LaRon Landry has drawn three personal foul penalties in two games. Ryan thinks replacement refs may be targeting him.

“We have to look at it,” Ryan said on ESPN Radio. “I think he’s a target. People are going to be watching him.”

* Vlad Ducasse played 10 snaps at left guard in Sunday’s game after playing none the week before. Ryan said Ducasse has earned playing time. Ducasse’s time came at the expense of Matt Slauson, who is a free agent after the season. The two had a brief training camp competition that Slauson won. “I think Vlad has earned the right to play some,” Ryan said.
