Weather Service issues tornado watch for NY region

The National Weather Service has revised a tornado watch is in effect for the five boroughs of New York City and its suburbs.

Meteorologists say there is no imminent threat of a tornado. However, severe thunderstorms are expected and conditions are favorable for a possible tornado.

A watch is in effect for New York City, parts of New Jersey and New York’s lower Hudson Valley until 7 p.m.

The Weather Service says Long Island, Westchester and western parts of Connecticut are under a watch until 11 p.m.

Two twisters touched down in New York City earlier this month. The first went through the Breezy Point section of the Rockaway peninsula in Queens. The second hit to the northwest, in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn.

No injuries were reported.
