Body of 29-year-old diver recovered off Breezy Point

The body of a 29-year-old diver who disappeared off a jetty at Breezy Point on Friday, was recovered about two and a half miles away at 217th Street and Rockaway Point Blvd around 10 a.m. this morning by NYPD Harbor Patrol.

Yevgeniy Glebov was still wearing a wet suit, SCUBA fins and a depth gauge watch.

About a dozen family members, too shattered to talk, hugged and broke down in tears as they stood on pier in Riis Park, facing the NYPD harbor boat that had earlier retrieved the Glebov’s body.

The victim’s mother-in-law, who is from the Ukraine said, It’s “So hard. My daughter is pregnant.”

One friend would only say, “We don’t know what happened.” The body was brought to the US Park Police station.

This morning a tugboat spotted the body and called the US Coast Guard, which in turn alerted the NYPD Harbor Unit.

Law enforcement sources said the Glebov, who was an experienced diver, had been spear fishing, but he failed to return to shore around 3 p.m. on Friday.

There were no obvious signs of trauma. The cause of death not yet determined.
