Cynthia Rowley

Taking the last spot in fashion week, Cynthia Rowley really made it rain: with lots of confetti (and champagne). Moved from earlier in the week, the presentation/soiree was in a stunning, dilapidated hotel on Beekman Street in the shadow of City Hall Park. The models were situated on the ground floor as colorful, metallic and paper confetti landed after fluttering through a grand atrium that stretched up a dizzying number of stories. Editors, toasting the end to the long week of shows and late nights, shuffled from there to the top floor, which had a glass ceiling offering stunning views of downtown landmarks like the Municipal Building and the Freedom Tower. A few curious editors tossed confetti to celebrate.

The collection itself was all about volume. The models’ hair had been teased in the spirit of Roseanne Roseannadanna and the silhouettes were far from body conscious with lots of tiers, tent dresses and super baggy trousers. Confetti prints, mints, pastel pinks and metallic blues purple prints reminiscent of space tape were the ruling palettes. The festive clothes looked especially arresting in the unique space that time forgot: a spot that definitely made it a presentation to remember.
