Romney’s Obama bash: Did he speak too soon?

The Issue: The media coverage of Romney and Obama’s responses to recent attacks in the Middle East.

***

Mitt Romney was correct in speaking out against President Obama’s foreign policies following the murderous attack on the US consulate in Libya and the attack on our embassy in Cairo (“The Media Lash Out,” John Podhoretz, PostOpinion, Sept. 13).

Had Romney, who appeared to exercise instinctive leadership, not spoken out, I believe he would have been criticized, as well.

My thanks to Podhoretz and The Post for clearly revealing the extreme bias against Romney by much of the news media and their pathetic partnership with Obama.

It is despicable that Romney issued a preemptive criticism of Obama as Ambassador Chris Stevens was under attack in Libya.

Not only was Romney misinformed and misguided, but he failed to adhere to one basic rule: Politics stops at the water’s edge. When our country is attacked, we stand behind our president, no matter what party he belongs to.

Romney’s statements demonstrate corruption — valuing partisan politics over uniting around our country. He showed greed for power instead of patriotism.

Romney seems to think that he is exempt from our common rules of decency.

Romney’s comments elicited a response from Obama, accusing him of shooting first and aiming later without knowing the facts.

In 2009, Obama boldly stated that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in the Prof. Gates snafu. He spoke rashly and was later proven wrong.

Romney was simply stating that the US should not be defending the religious rights of Muslim extremists in the wake of the attacks. If he didn’t comment, he would have been vilified for not being presidential.

It appears our government was not prepared to defend our personnel, yet claims to have a strong foreign policy.

Obama is succeeding where it was thought impossible — he’s making Jimmy Carter look good.

The word I hear most from the left regarding Romney’s comments on the weak response from the US Embassy in Cairo is “despicable.”

You know what I find despicable? The fact that Obama attends less than half of his morning security briefings. The fact that the administration reportedly ignored the warning of an attack as early as Sept. 4. The fact that with the anniversary of Sept. 11 coming up, our embassies and consulates in the Middle East lacked sufficient trained military personnel. The fact that the president once again insulted the leader of one of our strongest allies, Israel. That is what I find “despicable.”
