Jets safety Landry hit with $15K fine, will appeal

LaRon Landry is vowing to appeal, not change his ways, after being slapped with a fine for an alleged horse-collar tackle by the NFL Friday.

The Jets’ hard-hitting safety was docked $15,750 for dragging down Steelers wideout Antonio Brown during Sunday’s 27-10 loss at Pittsburgh, but Landry disputed the league’s version of events.

“From looking at the tape, I didn’t even pull his shoulder pads at all,” Landry said after practice. “My hands are on top of his shoulder pads, but I didn’t grab the back of them at his neck.”

In addition to the fine, it was the third personal-foul penalty in Landry’s first two games as a Jet. The veteran defender, who signed in the offseason after five seasons with the Redskins, said all the recriminations won’t prompt him to change his approach.

“I’m not going to let that change me as a player — not at all,” Landry said. “I’ve got to be a little smarter, but I’m not going to stop my style of play.I’m just trying to win and do anything to make a play. I’m not really worried about my pocket and how much money it’s going to cost for me to make a play.”

Landry, however, did admit he is worried about making himself a target with the league by playing too recklessly.

“I’ve just got to be a little smarter, especially on the sideline hit,” he said. “I just need to be smarter with my technique.”

Darrelle Revis had a full practice and appears set to start Sunday in Miami against the Dolphins — a game in which the Jets could be at nearly full strength.

Outside linebacker Bryan Thomas (hamstring) and fullback John Conner (knee) were listed as doubtful and are almost certain not to play, but that’s about the extent of the negative injury news.

Tight end Dustin Keller (hamstring) and cornerback Ellis Lankster (back) didn’t practice but are listed as questionable. Ryan said Keller would be reevaluated today, and Konrad Reuland and Dedrick Epps would play in his place if Keller can’t go.

Miami also is relatively healthy, though the Dolphins ruled out defensive tackle Tony McDaniel (knee) and listed wideout Marlon Moore as doubtful with a hamstring injury.

Tim Tebow said he had seen just one of the pictures from his Vogue magazine spread with famed photographer Annie Leibovitz that was released this week.

“I haven’t seen the article, but a lot of [teammates] have been teasing me about the pictures,” Tebow said.

Tebow said the chance to work with Leibovitz was the only reason he agreed to the shoot.

“She’s one of the best photographers ever, so that was pretty fun,” he said. “To be able to work with her was cool. It was fun just being able to spend time with her and learn a little bit about what she does.”

Defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson was excused from practice for what the team described as personal reasons, but Ryan said Wilkerson would play Sunday.
