Somers in fall TV chase

Suzanne Somers returns to TV this Wednesday with the premiere of “The Suzanne Show,” airing weekly at 7 a.m. Somers, 65, purchased the airtime from Lifetime, and procured her own sponsors. Here’s more in our Q&A with the former “Three’s Company” star.

Q: You’ve been a very outspoken proponent of alternative medicine after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Will alternative medicine be given top priority on “The Suzanne Show’?

A: Alternative and integrative medicine will certainly be well represented since mainstream media rarely cover them. We will direct viewers to resources in their area. Obviously, there is a great need for alternative medical information to augment allopathic medicine.

Q: Is this show a result of your numerous guest appearances on other talk shows?

A: This evolved from all the books I’ve written and all the lectures I’ve done and my 25 years in Vegas. It’s exactly what I love doing; providing cutting-edge health information wrapped in glamour and entertainment.

Q: Were you shopping a talk-show idea, or did Lifetime approach you?

A: I didn’t shop this show and Lifetime didn’t approach me. I decided to buy the weekly hour on Lifetime and bring in sponsors whose messages are resonant with mine. Frankly, I didn’t know if even one sponsor would join me. The result was that we actually wound up with more sponsor applications than we could handle, which was extremely gratifying for me.

Q: Do you consider this a competitor of the network morning shows?

A: I hadn’t thought of my show competing with “GMA” or “Today.” It’s very different and will attract those who are looking for information they cannot get anywhere else that affects them personally.

We also cover men’s health, and Dr. Abe Morgentaler from Harvard announced on our series that he’s been giving men with active prostate cancer testosterone, and their tumors regressed. That is exactly the opposite of conventional therapies. This is very big news.
