Penn State beats Temple for second straight win

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Matt McGloin threw for a career-high 318 yards and ran for two short scores, and linebacker Michael Mauti led another strong defensive effort to lead Penn State to a 24-13 win Saturday over Temple.

Allen Robinson added to his torrid start as the Nittany Lions’ top receiver with a 41-yard touchdown catch on a fourth-down play in rookie coach Bill O’Brien’s new offense.

Temple (1-2) couldn’t capitalize on a number of early Penn State penalties and mistakes. McGloin got the Nittany Lions (2-2) back on track after two long completions before stumbling into the end zone from a yard out with 22 seconds left in the first half for a 14-3 lead.

Temple finally got a touchdown on Matt Brown’s 1-yard catch off a shovel pass with 1:33 left in the game.

The Owls’ are winless in their last 23 games against their in-state rival, stretching back to 1941.
