Bloomberg: ‘Sad’ Mets have fallen apart

When you lose in a 16-1 stinker at home and are going nowhere, even Mayor Bloomberg takes notice.

“It’s sad that the Mets have sort of fallen apart here,” the mayor said today during a sports discussion on his weekly radio show.

Bloomberg’s comments came the morning after the bumbling Mets were humiliated at Citi Field by the Philadelphia Phillies and were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

While bemoaning the fate of the Queens team, Bloomberg found nice things to say about their longtime Bronx rivals

He described Yankees manager Joe Girardi as “great” and urged listeners to read a new profile of him in the New Yorker.

Bloomberg also got in a plug for the Nets basketball team, which will inaugurate their move from New Jersey to Brooklyn with a game against the Knicks.

“That’ll be exciting,” said the mayor, who admits he wasn’t much of a sports fan before one of his daughters started dragging him to games.
