Wright sets Mets’ hits record

Call it the Squib Heard ’Round the Citi.

David Wright’s third-inning dribbler last night was hardly the most picturesque hit of his career, but it was good enough to make him No. 1.

With career hit No. 1,419, the Mets third baseman moved ahead of Ed Kranepool on the franchise’s all-time list and helped his team beat the Pirates, 6-0, at Citi Field.

“I got to show off my blazing speed,” Wright said. “A hit is a hit and I’m just excited I could do it at home.”

BOX SCORE

Wright set the record in his 1,256th game. Kranepool, who played for the Mets from 1962-79, established his mark in 1,853 games.

Wright added a single in the fourth inning and finished 2-for-4 as the Mets won for the fifth time in six games.
