THE MUMMY, 1932

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, 2004

GOLDFINGER, 1964

Norma Rae, 1979

Sunday, 2 p.m., TCM

Sally Field won the “Best Actress” Oscar and nearly ruined her career because people didn’t like her “You like me” acceptance speech. Stupid prejudice, because she did a great job here in the true story about a poor Southern woman, Norma Rae, who works a miserable dead-end factory job and ends up a hero. After meeting a union organizer from New York (Ron Leibman), Norma risks all to help convince her co-workers to organize a union. Much better than it sounds. Really.

The Mummy, 1932

Sunday, 8 p.m., TCM

The only “Mummy” worth watching is this one made back in 1932 because it so carefully crafted and so magnificently lit that it’s a work of art. In 1921, an archeological expedition uncovers the tomb of Pharaoh Im-Ho-Tep, (Boris Karloff), who was buried alive when he was caught trying to bring his princess love back to life using the forbidden Scroll of Toth. When the tomb is opened thousands of years later and the scroll read, Im-Ho-Tep comes back to life and goes looking for his true love’s modern incarnation (Zita Johann).

Friday Night Lights, 2004

Tuesday, 3 a.m., TBS

This is the movie that spawned an equally good TV series. Based on a true story about a high school football team in economically depressed Odessa, Texas, where the Friday-night game and winning is the only game in town. When the MVP suffers a career-ending injury in the first game, it’s up to coach Billy Bob Thornton to bring the racially divided team — and town — back together, while under the scrutiny and disapproval of its citizens. Just great.

Goldfinger, 1964

Wednesday, 6 a.m., USA

Before Bond, James Bond, was A) a superhero who could hold onto the back of diving submarines and B) a thug, he was a connoisseur of wine, women and Baccarat. Here the great Sean Connery, as suave Bond uncovers a brilliant, yet evil plan by master criminal, Auric Goldfinger, (Gert Fröbe), to rob Fort Knox. Honor Blackman plays, yes, Pussy Galore.
