Hit-&-run slaying

An elderly man was killed by a heartless hit-and-run driver near Columbia University in Morningside Heights, cops said.

Arnold Slater, 75, of Greenwich Village, was walking near Alfred Lerner Hall at 114th Street just before midnight Friday when he was struck by a motorist in a black Honda Civic driving north on Broadway, police said yesterday.

The driver fled the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Hospital. “I saw someone being taken away on a stretcher — it looked really bad,” said a witness.

Slater’s neighbors said he kept to himself. “He was just quiet and barely spoke,” said Stacy Rosenstock, who lives in Slater’s building.
