Woman flies into Newark with gun in purse

A Florida woman flew from Orlando to Newark with a loaded handgun in her purse this morning after forgetting to tell airport screeners about the gun, The Post has learned.

The 37-year-old woman, who works as a firefighter in the Orlando area, realized she still had the gun when she was on the plane and reported it to Port Authority officers after she exited United Airlines Flight 15, which arrived in Newark at 10:24 a.m., said Port Authority police spokesman Al Della Fave.

“She was visibly upset. She said she had a license to carry it and just forgot to check it,” Della Fave said. “The officer took possession of the handgun and made it safe and contacted the Essex County prosecutor who declined to prosecuted based on the fact that the woman self-reported it.”
