Ryan: Jets have plenty of receiving weapons

Call Rex Ryan unconcerned his Jets might not have enough offensive firepower Sunday with speedy rookie wideout Stephen Hill unlikely to face the 49ers.

“I think [Jeremy] Kerley’s doing a nice job. He seems to be back,” the Jets coach said Friday. “Chaz Schilens [is] a big, fast guy that played well in particular at the end of [the Dolphins] game. Obviously we know his blocking is tremendous. … And then you add [Clyde] Gates, who’s probably as fast as any wideout in the league. We can throw that out there. Then we’ve got Patrick Turner back. I think we certainly have enough weapons.”

Hill (hamstring) is listed as doubtful, and Ryan sounded as if that were being generous.

“It’s better than [last] Sunday,” Hill said. “I’m not sure what’s going to happen for this Sunday. It’s definitely iffy.”

Tight end Dustin Keller, who missed the last two games with a hamstring problem, is likely to return.

“There’s no question Dustin helps [with having enough weapons],” Ryan said. “And then we have [tight end Jeff] Cumberland too as a guy that can run.”

On Thursday, Ryan said, “I assume [Keller] will” play. Friday he declined to say that again, but when asked if Keller had a setback, Ryan replied, “Never had any setback, but we’ll list him as questionable.”

LB Bryan Thomas (hamstring) is questionable but said he feels well enough to play. Thomas called it a “coach’s decision” whether he goes. Other questionable Jets besides Keller and Thomas are LB Bart Scott (toe), FB John Conner (knee) and Turner (hamstring).

For the 49ers, WR Ted Ginn (ankle), RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) and DT Isaac Sopoaga (ankle, knee) are questionable. TE Vernon Davis (back), P Andy Lee (hand) and LB Patrick Willis (ankle) are probable.

With Darrelle Revis out with a torn ACL, among those on whom defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman and the Jets will rely on are backup corners Ellis Lankster and Isaiah Trufant.

“It’s time for them to go play, it’s time to take the pacifiers out of their mouth and it’s time for them to eat meat, go find out how they digest it,” Thurman said.

The Jets had veteran CB Chris Carr in for a tryout but did not sign him, according to a source. They also tried out corners Dante Hughes, Darrin Walls and Aaron Berry. The Jets signed Walls to the practice squad and released WR Jordan White.
