A martial arts instructor from Maspeth used a fake city marshal’s notice in an attempt to collect $1,500 from a student that he claimed owed him money for canceled classes, authorities said.
Carmine Zoochi, 44, who runs the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy on Eliot Avenue, near 62nd Avenue, allegedly sent the forged paperwork to his victim in late July.
The letter, which bore a bogus city marshals logo, was supposedly from marshal “Frank Oldakowsky” who is assigned “badge number 189,” said the city Department of Investigations.
However, a records check showed there was no city marshal with that badge number, DOI added. The letter was traced back to Zoochi, who surrendered yesterday and was charged with forgery, possession of a forged instrument and unlawful collection process, said DOI Commissioner Rose Gill Hearn.
